The Gainesville (FL) Alumni Chapter proudly highlights the achievement of one of its own, Rev. Ronald “Ron” Rawls, Sr., who was named the 2026 Drum Major for Justice Faith Leader Award recipient by the Martin Luther King Jr. Commission of Alachua County. Presented at the Commission’s Annual Prayer Breakfast on April 3, 2026, the award honors individuals who exemplify the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through service, social justice advocacy, and a commitment to nonviolent change.
A Fall 1984 initiate of the University of Florida Chapter, the Zeta Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Brother Rawls has consistently embodied the fraternity’s ideal of Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor. Within the Gainesville (FL) Alumni Chapter, he serves as Political and Social Action Chair, leading efforts in voter engagement, public policy awareness, and community mobilization. His impact extends across the broader community as Social Action Chair for the local National Pan-Hellenic Council and as 2nd Vice President of the NAACP Alachua County Branch.
Rev. Rawls also serves as pastor of Greater Bethel AME Church Gainesville, where his leadership continues to bridge faith and action. Through ministry and outreach, he has strengthened the church’s role as a center for spiritual growth and community empowerment, addressing issues ranging from education to social justice.
This recognition reflects a lifelong commitment to servant leadership, advocacy, and uplifting others—hallmarks of both his ministry and his dedication to the community.
