Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on January 5, 1911, at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, by ten men who sought brotherhood, opportunity, and achievement amid racial discrimination and exclusion. Led by Elder Watson Diggs and Byron Kenneth Armstrong, the Founders established an organization grounded in character, scholarship, and a lasting commitment to excellence.

Originally named Kappa Alpha Nu, the Fraternity adopted the name Kappa Alpha Psi, effective April 15, 1915. Its purpose—Achievement in Every Field of Human Endeavor—continues to unite undergraduate and alumni brothers across the United States and internationally.

Through leadership development, Guide Right, Kappa League, educational support, and community service, the Fraternity carries its founding ideals into the lives of young people and communities. The Gainesville Alumni Chapter advances that legacy through its local brotherhood, leadership, and service.

02
Provincial Level

The Southern Province emerged from the reorganization of the former Southeastern Province following the Fraternity’s 1950 Grand Chapter Meeting. Toussaint L. Hale of the Birmingham Alumni Chapter became its first Province Polemarch and helped organize a joint provincial meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, in October 1951.

Since its establishment, the Southern Province has connected undergraduate and alumni chapters through provincial leadership, shared standards, and a commitment to advancing the Fraternity’s purposes. It provides a structure through which chapters strengthen brotherhood, develop leaders, support undergraduate success, and coordinate service.

As a chapter of the Southern Province, Gainesville Alumni carries this shared responsibility into its work in Gainesville and the surrounding communities. Our chapter’s leadership, service, and support of undergraduate brothers connect local action to the broader mission of the Province and the Fraternity.

Gainesville (FL) Alumni Chapter

Chartered on December 12, 1957, as the Ocala (FL) Alumni Chapter, our chapter brought together brothers from Ocala, Gainesville, and Lake City. On May 27, 1971, it became the Gainesville (FL) Alumni Chapter.

As part of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and its Southern Province, GAC translates a shared commitment to achievement into local leadership and service. Our vision—Building a Legacy. Sustaining Excellence. Impacting Communities.—guides our work throughout Gainesville and the surrounding communities.

GAC also serves as the advisory chapter for the University of Florida Chapter, the Zeta Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., strengthening the connection between undergraduate and alumni brotherhood.
