Room to Read (R2R) Coordinator: Brother Reynolds Jackson
Each year, Kappa Alpha Psi’s conducts a National Day of Reading, in partnership with Room to Read to share the joy of reading, promote literacy, education, and community service across the nation. During this nationwide day of service, chapters connect with local elementary schools to read to students, donate books, and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
Rather than limiting participation to the single annual observance, the Chapter expanded the National Day of Reading initiative into a monthly “Room to Read” literacy program. This approach demonstrated not only compliance with announced goals, but leadership in extending their reach and effectiveness at the local level.
Through its monthly Room to Read initiative, the Chapter consistently engaged youth, families, and community partners in literacy-centered programming focused on reading proficiency, academic encouragement, and positive relationship-building. Alumni and Undergraduate Brothers and Silhouettes actively participated in reading sessions and reinforced the importance of education as a pathway to opportunity and success.
