From 1974 to 1977, Carter anchored the Seminole defense as both a defensive back and linebacker. His versatility, discipline, and relentless pursuit of the football distinguished him among his peers. During his senior season in 1977, he delivered a performance that remains unmatched nearly five decades later—recording 181 tackles in a single season, a mark that still stands as Florida State’s all-time single-season record. Over the course of his collegiate career, Carter amassed an extraordinary 512 tackles from 1974 to 1977, another school record that has yet to be broken.

As a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., initiated through the Theta Eta Chapter in Spring 1976, Carter has exemplified achievement and commitment for nearly 50 years. He is a long-time member and Past Polemarch of the Gainesville (FL) Alumni Chapter and remains one of its most dedicated and hardworking brothers. His leadership continues today through his 10+ years of service as Undergraduate Advisor to the Zeta Phi Chapter at the University of Florida—a powerful testament to his ability to transcend rivalry and invest in the development of young men across institutions.
In addition to his fraternity service, Brother Carter has devoted his professional life to education and coaching, mentoring generations of students and athletes. His work ethic, accountability, and steady leadership reflect the same qualities that once defined his presence on the football field.
